From May to October, Shop from Local Farmers
Both Nelson and Kaslo have active farmers markets each weekend (and, in Nelson, also on Wednesdays) from May to October with artisans and local farmers selling their wares to residents and visitors. The weekend market in Nelson is called the Cottonwood Market, as it is held at Cottonwood Falls, a nearby park. Kaslo’s market is held each Saturday on Front Street, across from the Kaslo Hotel on the green.
The Wednesday Nelson Farmers Market takes place right downtown in the 400 block of Baker Street, between Josephine and Ward streets. This convenient location makes shopping straight from the farmer a, well, piece of cake (sorry.) Hosted by the Eco-Society, the Wednesday market and the Cottonwood market are not only farmers markets, but artisan markets as well, with crafts, ready-made food as well as produce sold.
The Saturday farmer’s market in Nelson opens in mid-May. Cottonwood Market is open each Saturday from 9:30 to 3:00. This market has artisans, farmers selling produce, ready-to-eat food and live music.
From June to September, from 10:00am to 2:oopm in Kaslo, each Saturday you can stroll along Front Street on the green area next to the hotel and buy your produce from local farmers. And not only produce, but the lively atmosphere lends itself to all sorts of vendors, including gifts, artisan crafts, and much more.
From June to September in downtown Nelson, you can enjoy the weekly Wednesday farmers market right on Baker Street from 9:30 to 3:00. Vendors include farmers selling produce, as well as artisans selling soap, pottery, paintings, cards, jewelry, and much more. Prepared foods such as jams and crepes are also featured in this market.
