Three Full Nights This Summer
Nelson Market Fest 2014 is happening. It’s a chance to get outside in the long summer nights beginning right after the solstice and enjoy a neighbourhood party-like atmosphere in the heart of Nelson’s downtown. It’s a unique celebration in that it happens three times during the summer: Once in late June, then again in late July, with the last Market Fest happening in August.
It’s fun for the entire family — Each Market Fest runs from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm and includes food vendors, street entertainment, music, and kids entertainment (one classic that I love is the huge bubble tray). The entire feeling to the evening is laid-back fun, a leisurely stroll through downtown with family and friends while eating a freshly cooked crepe or other locally-made delicious treats. Bands are set up on either end of the event, and part of the fun is to walk the length of the Fest, taking in all the different vendors and entertainment.
Streets are packed and the vibe is sheer summer delight in Nelson and its offerings. With over 100 vendors, there’s quite the range of items offered, too. Past vendors have included cobblers, (Yes, that’s right, a cobbler!) crepe makers, artists, bow makers and so many more. There is such a wide range that you really need to experience it.
Market Fest 2014 Begins June 27th
The first Market Fest is happening on Friday, June 27th. The next dates are July 25th and then August 22nd. There’s a $5.00 suggested donation for adults (over 18) but the Eco-Society wants you to come even if you can’t make that donation. The line-up for the two stages (one on Falls Street and the other on Stanley Street) has been confirmed, and is:
Stanley Street Stage:

We hope you’ll try to visit Nelson during Market Fest 2014, either in June, July or August. The warm summer nights, the crowds of happy people and the upbeat music and dancing will make your heart sing! Hope to see you there.
