Ideas for the Perfect Valentine’s Day (and Night)

The perfect Valentine’s Day can take many different shapes. We’re sure there’s a perfect itinerary just for you in Nelson Kootenay Lake, and we hope to spark some ideas for you today. But make sure you head over to Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism and take a peak at all the great deals we’ve got brewing — from Valentine’s specific deals to winter-long specials.

Here are some sweet ideas for you, though, to get you started thinking about your perfect day with the one you love:

Opt In for the Day:

Start off your day in one of Nelson or Kaslo’s many cafés with a homegrown espresso (from Oso Negro) and home baked delicious treat of your choice. This might be sweet or savoury, from Starbird Bakehouse, John Ward Coffeehouse, Oso Negro, Sidewinders, The Dominion Cafe or the Kootenay Co-op Bakery or Kalso’s own Bluebell or Kaslo Hotel.

After breakfast, decide whether you want a day in relaxing or a day outdoors. For those who opt-in, could we first bring your attention to the fact that our local Kutenai Moon Furniture is offering a sweet discount on duvets? And then, head on over to Otter’s books to get a sweet read on.

Curl up at the fire of your choice, either in one of our many accommodation options, or, perhaps, at our aptly named Library Lounge, located in the Hume Hotel.

Your day continues with a short outdoors activity at Ainsworth Hot Springs, and ends in one of our many (over 70!) restaurants. Take a quick detour before you head out for the evening and have a complimentary wine tasting at BC Wine Guys (and grab a bottle for later). Your day is at its Kootenay best.

Opting Out:

After your breakfast, you’re going to get out and play! Head on over to Gerick Cycle and Ski and pick your pleasure: a fat tire bike, perhaps? Or would you rather cross country ski? If snowshoeing is what makes you happy, try out ROAM or Whitewater Ski Resort. And if you’d rather ski, Nelson Nordic Ski Club or Whitewater Ski Resort is where you’ll go.

And, if you love the water, take in a charter fishing tour this Valentine’s Day. Whatever you choose, you’re going to be happy in the great outdoors today.

Once you’ve picked your pleasure, it’s off to the great outdoors for you! Take a picnic lunch if you’ll be in the woods – You can find great takeout food in both Kaslo and Nelson, or in Balfour at the Dock n Duck.

Your afternoon will take you over to Ainsworth Hot Springs as well, before you head out on the town. Don’t forget the wine tasting at BC Wine Guys. Outdoor lovers can enjoy a wine tasting just as much as anyone.

Out on the Town:

That night, a special Valentine’s concert is performed by Naomi Kiss and Rita Dean at the Blue House in Nelson. This is a very special concert, one you will not want to miss. The Civic Theatre is hosting their annual Oscar Gala with food, drinks, silent auction (get your bids in for a trip to Mountain Trek!) and of course a movie.

We hope to see you this Valentine’s weekend, whether you stay indoors or out, whether you end up curled up by a fire or out on the town!
