Sanderella’s Boutique and Star Bird Teahouse is a family owned gift store and teahouse in downtown Nelson BC. The store, an off shoot of the original in New Denver, was designed as a place for women to come with friends to shop, relax, dress up and enjoy British and European whimsical treats such as macarons, crepes, Italian gelato, paninis, and Afternoon Tea and scones with clotted cream.
While I waited for my companion to arrive for lunch, I explored the myriad of handmade objects for sale. I needed a couple of hours to uncover all the treasures but managed to make a purchase of a notebook in under five minutes.
Once Kathryn arrived we enjoyed a delicious lunch comprised of a gluten free (an appreciated option) savoury crepe- the Starchick and a mixed Buddah Salad served with exotic teas in charmingly mismatched pots and fine china teacups. We stuck out our pinkies and felt like the Queen.
For dessert we ordered mini cupcakes and scones. I made the mini double chocolate cupcake last for three decorous bites in a great show of strong will. The person responsible for the decadent sweet treats and fantastic bespoke cakes is Wabie Quayle. Her sister Angeliqua made and served our wholesome lunches. Have a look at the picture to see what we were up against.
So ladies, I challenge you to go to Sanderella’s and first, not buy anything, secondly, not enjoy a gorgeous lunch and thirdly, not have a good time with your girlfriend(s). It simply can’t be done.
